Today, 12th August, is International Youth Day!
Ever since 1999, August 12th has been acknowledged as the International Youth Day and the theme for 2014 is “Youth and Mental Health.” It is an important topic for us and EFPSA’s own Social Impact Initiative is actively supporting the endeavour to raise awareness on this important topic.
According to the WHO, around 20% of the world’s children and adolescents have mental disorders or problems. In addition to the challenges they encounter as a result of their condition, they also become an object to discrimination and social exclusion.
This is the reason why the Social Impact Initiative aims to educate youth, raise awareness, and encourage the discussion about stigma of mental illness in the public. As part of our efforts, the campaign “Mind the Mind”, consisting of educational workshops for high school students and an informational Facebook page, is about to be launched very soon.
We encourage all of you to check the team’s Position Paper on the stigma of mental illness at the following link. Expect more updates about our “Mind the Mind” campaign and ways to get actively involved in the following weeks.
