We are exactly 28 days away from the 31st EFPSA Congress and the closure of the mandate 2016-2017! The Board of Management Postcard for the month of March brings with it various updates from the EFPSA Working Community who is working at full capacity with finalising Action Plans and any pending tasks while kicking off the very final month for the mandate!

Board of Management

The Board of Management has been very busy with preparations for the upcoming Congress including preparing the working schedule, preparing proposals for the upcoming General Assembly, working on pending tasks, opening the Call for the next Board of Management and also the Call for the Executive Board 2017-2018 which you can find here. We urge any motivated individuals interested in developing EFPSA and their skills simultaneously to apply – we can say from experience that it is truly worth it!

On 2nd March 2017 the Opening Ceremony of the JADE (European Confederation of Junior Enterprises) Spring Conference took place in Brussels. Jolien Vandeneynde, our Secretary General represented EFPSA at this event. Besides keynote speeches and a panel discussion JADE also announced the Junior Enterprises competing against each other for the JADE Excellence Awards in different categories. The Board of Management would like to thank JADE for the opportunity to attend this event.

Jolien Vandeneynde also attended the European Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (EPSA)’s Annual Reception at the European Parliament in Brussels which took place on 8th March 2017. The event consisted of different presentations, a panel discussion and a networking reception which gave the opportunity to connect with different partners of EPSA. The Board of Management would like to thank EPSA for the invitation.

Mónica Duarte, our Events Officer attended the EFPSA Train Advanced Trainers 2017 which took place between 18th and 26th March in Viseu, Portugal. We would like to thank the Organising Committee, the Training Office and the Trainers’ Team for their phenomenal work. We would also like to extend our gratitude to the European Youth Foundation (EYF) for supporting EFPSA in the organisation of this Event among others.

Services & Offices

The Journal of European Psychology Students (JEPS) is looking forward to delivering a workshop on responsible and reproducible psychological research at the 31st EFPSA Congress in Azerbaijan. In this workshop, the team will outline the crisis in reproducing psychological research, the growing movement towards open science, and how JEPS promote sound research practice. Moreover, in a new JEPS Bulletin blog post, the team interviewed Jonathon Love, co-founder and developer of jamovi, about jamovi’s challenges, features and future.  

Throughout the last month, the Junior Researcher Programme (EFPSA JRP) Team has opened the call for the European Summer School 2017 Supervisors! All PhD or postdoc researchers interested in the fields of Developmental & Educational psychology are invited to apply until 9th April 2017, 23;59 CET. Furthermore, the Organising Committee of the JRP Conference and Internship has invited the JRP 2016-2017 cohort to register for the Event. The conference will take place in Ireland between 1st – 4th August 2017, followed by the Internship between 8th – 25th August 2017. The Conference registration for alumni and other students will open shortly, so make sure to stay updated with our media.

The Social Impact Initiative (SII) have launched the Call for Local Coordinators for the Better Together Campaign in collaboration with the Training Office and supported by EYF. We encourage any interested individuals who would like to create a more positive attitude towards building a more inclusive society to get involved! Meanwhile the Study & Travel Abroad Team have been working hard on developing the highly sought after Travel Network Membership Cards which will be launched at the upcoming Congress. Furthermore, we are happy to announce the success of Part One of our first ever EFPSA Exchange which took place between the 8th – 12th of March 2017 in Macedonia between the Member Organisations of Psihesko (Macedonia) and SPOL (Finland). We are looking forward for Part Two!

Reb Xiberras, the Policy Coordinator, has been working on finalising three policies which will be put forward for adoption at the General Assembly in the upcoming Congress. Moreover, the External Relations Office is currently collaborating with JEPS and SII on finalising our Open Access Policy Paper that we are writing on behalf of the European Health Students’ Associations Network. The EFPSA Office is working on the website and materials for the upcoming Events and projects. Furthermore an edition of the External Newsletter will be published in April and the Internal Newsletter is currently being compiled.

The Finance Office is currently working on closing our fiscal year and preparing the financial report. At the same time, they are coordinating the first activity of Empowering youth for building more inclusive societies work plan and preparing another “Project Incubator: From Idea to Grant” workshop for the upcoming Congress. On 13th March 2017, our Grant Coordinator Karla Matić attended European Youth Foundation Information Session held at the Council of Europe offices in Brussels. The session was organised by EYF Secretariat and gathered the representatives of international NGOs and networks who deal with EYF grant applications. The session helped us to understand better the EYF application, assessment and reporting process


The very first EFPSA Academy took place between 3rd – 5th March 2017 in Olomouc, Czech Republic. Under the topic of ‘Project Management and Design Thinking’, participants from several NGOs had the opportunity to discuss and share practices with the aim of implementing the knowledge gathered in the NGOs they are involved with. EFPSA believes this Event was a success for its first edition and is already searching for ways to improve this Event in future editions. EFPSA Train Advanced Trainers 2017 took place between 18th – 26th March in Viseu, Portugal. The topic of this year’s edition was ‘Making Your Impact Last’  and the aim of the Event is to provide professional development and work as a networking platform for young trainers. The 30 TAT graduates will now have the opportunity to join HIVE, a networking platform for advanced trainers.

The most awaited annual EFPSA Event, the Congress, is less than one month away. The Organising Committee has been intensively working on the last logistical details and both participants and EFPSA Working Community are very excited to attend this Event. The 31st EFPSA Congress will happen between 23rd – 30th April in Gakh, Azerbaijan.

Task Forces

The Internship Task Force has been working hard on meeting the goals set in their Action Plan and are currently in the final stage of their work in which they are getting in touch with institutions in order to build a final database of secure contacts to be passed on to the next mandate. Moreover they are finalising a statistical report where the findings from our Internships Survey will be shared – stay tuned for updates!
